Programs & Projects
We believe sustainable change happens when communities are equipped, supported, and trusted. These events are created in partnership with local organizations, providers, and community leaders to reflect the unique needs and strengths of each community.

Training, Mentorship & Professional Development.
ROBWI provides education, mentorship, and professional development for doulas and community providers committed to serving families across rural Oklahoma. Our programs are grounded in trauma-responsive care, cultural humility, and the understanding that knowledge is carried within communities as well as within clinical systems.
Guided by Indigenous principles of relationship, shared responsibility, and learning through community, our training model emphasizes mentorship, lived experience, and practical application. Participants develop the skills needed to support families while also strengthening the local systems of care that surround pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting.
Through hands-on training, guided mentorship, and ongoing learning opportunities, we prepare a workforce that understands both the realities of rural systems and the importance of relationship-centered care.
Community-Based Doula Training & Certification
Training Scholarships & Educational Access
Provider & Community Training
The Rural Oklahoma Birth & Wellness Initiative serves as a community-based doula training organization dedicated to strengthening the rural perinatal workforce through education, mentorship, and community-rooted leadership.
Our training model is guided by Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and the understanding that communities already hold deep knowledge about birth, care, and family wellbeing. Rather than importing outside solutions, ROBWI grows doulas from within the communities they will serve.
Participants engage in a comprehensive training and mentorship process that combines evidence-informed education with relational learning, hands-on practice, and community connection. Doulas are prepared to support families across pregnancy, birth, and postpartum while working collaboratively with healthcare providers and community organizations.
Training is only the beginning of the pathway. Through structured mentorship, professional development, and ongoing community engagement, doulas remain connected to local systems of care and continue growing as leaders within their communities.
By developing a locally rooted doula workforce, ROBWI strengthens continuity of care for families while building sustainable support systems that honor culture, community knowledge, and the realities of rural life.
ROBWI works to ensure that community members who feel called to support families are able to access training, mentorship, and workforce pathways regardless of financial or geographic barriers.
Through scholarships, flexible learning structures, and community-rooted recruitment, we prioritize individuals who are already connected to the communities they will serve. This approach reflects our belief that strong systems of care grow from within communities and are strengthened by lived experience, cultural knowledge, and long-term relationship.
Training access initiatives help remove financial barriers while expanding the rural perinatal workforce, ensuring families have access to doulas and community-based supports who understand the realities of rural life.
ROBWI provides training for healthcare providers, community organizations, and professionals who support families during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting. These trainings strengthen collaboration between clinical systems and community-based care while reflecting the realities of rural communities.
Guided by Indigenous principles of relationship, shared responsibility, and respect for community knowledge, our trainings emphasize trauma-responsive care, cultural humility, and practical strategies for supporting families navigating complex systems.

Toolkits focus on nervous system regulation, informed decision-making, physical comfort, emotional support, and strengthening communication between families and the people who care for them. Materials are designed to be culturally responsive, easy to understand, and adaptable across a range of community contexts.
Guided by Indigenous principles of relationship, shared responsibility, and community knowledge, these tools help create a shared language between families, doulas, providers, and community supports.
By equipping both families and professionals with practical resources, this project strengthens continuity of care and helps families navigate pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting with greater confidence and support.
This initiative addresses the barriers many families experience in rural communities, including limited healthcare access, geographic isolation, and the ongoing impact of historical and intergenerational trauma.
Through community-informed program design, trauma-aware engagement, and partnership-driven education, ROBWI works to strengthen access to support and improve continuity of care for rural families. By centering lived experience and community leadership, the initiative supports long-term change while honoring the strengths, resilience, and knowledge already present within rural communities.
